Supposedly, it was Confucius who said, 'Choose a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life.'
Well, firstly, not all of us consciously choose our careers. Secondly, just because you choose a job you love, it does not automatically mean, that it will be effortless or easy, or even viable!
But, I suppose, what Confucius may have meant, is that, when we love what we do for a living, ...It makes us happy.
...It makes us feel fulfilled and productive.
...It inspires us to dive deep to explore and learn every facet of it.
...It empowers us to be creative, and to strive for excellence in it.
...It passionately drives us towards our goals.
...It motivates us to stay positive and focused, even on days that seem challenging.
...We enjoy the process, as much as the expected and/or achieved results.
Even though it may involve a lot of work, the sheer adrenaline that it boosts us with, hardly feels like we are working. It feels like play or having fun! And yes, this is how work should be!
All of my career choices so far, have been purely accidental!
But, I have generally enjoyed all kinds of work that I have been involved in. And I have given it a 100%; the process of learning, has always excited me.
My first dream career as a child, was to be a music teacher, like my first music teacher, Aunty Nancy Castellino (Do check out my personal Tribute to her at www.onemoresong.in/post/a-tribute).
I have vivid memories, of how she would interact with children, with joy and warmth, and how they would gravitate towards her, with love and enthusiasm. She was my inspiration! I would think, 'that's the kind of person I want to be'! A music teacher, teaching and inspiring children!
I got into music teaching, 7 years ago, again accidentally! I merely needed a distraction and had started teaching my son and niece. In a year, I suddenly had more students, and was realising my childhood dream! It happened so organically! I was having so much fun !
What I love about music teaching is that I enjoy the to-and-fro interactions, the reciprocity of inspiration, and my students' reflection of my passion for music. It is so engaging, that hours go by without a sweat! It also drives me to research various aspects of music, and invest in my own growth and development as a musician, and a teacher.
Ofcourse, there are challenges, but, they are far outweighed by the joy involved! More importantly, I get to share my love for music ! For me, this is '100% satisfaction guaranteed'!
I have learned so much from my students! I am in awe of the innocent wisdom, they reflect at such a tender age !
SoulNotes to Self: Happiness is...doing what you love for a living!
I feel grateful that I am finally doing what I love - Music - Learning, Teaching, and Blogging.
I feel empowered that I am an entrepreneur. I am my own boss, and competitor. I strive to be better at my work, and improve on it, a little, every day. I feel good about this.
I can have flexible working hours, and have downtime, to explore other interests. This allows for a work-life balance that also feels good.
I am aware of and involved in every aspect of my work and business, voraciously learning more every day, and can be creative and personal about it, at my wish and convenience.
I absolutely love what I am doing for a living! It is a joy beyond compare!
I would encourage others to also explore what they love to do, and whether that can be converted into a successful work endeavour. I wish for you, the very best, in work and life.
Love, from my soul to yours!
Soulful
